What this site provides
US Sales Tax Calculator provides free online calculators and educational content about US sales tax, for general information only. Using the site means accepting these terms.
Estimates, not advice
Results are estimates. This calculator uses each state's average combined state and local sales tax rate, but the exact rate depends on the city, county and special districts where a sale takes place, and rates change over time. Some items (such as many groceries and prescription medicines) are taxed differently or exempt in some states. This site provides general information only and is not tax, financial or legal advice. For an exact figure, check the rate with the relevant state or local tax authority.
Nothing on this site creates a professional or advisory relationship. For decisions that matter — filing, collecting, or remitting tax — rely on the relevant tax authority or a qualified tax professional, not on a calculator’s output.
The rate data
State rates shown here are average combined state and local rates as of July 1, 2026, transcribed from the Tax Foundation’s “State and Local Sales Tax Rates, Midyear 2026”, which compiles Sales Tax Clearinghouse and state revenue department data. Rates change over time and vary by locality; we work to keep the table current and date-stamped, but we do not warrant that any figure is the exact rate for a particular place, item or date.
Acceptable use
You may use the calculators freely for personal and business estimation. You may not misrepresent this site’s output as an official determination of tax due, attempt to disrupt the site, or scrape it in a way that burdens the hosting service.
Liability
The site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on an estimate produced here — including underpaid or overpaid tax — because every result is an estimate based on an average rate, as labelled.
Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time; the current version is the one posted on this page, with its date above.
