If your question is “why doesn’t the calculator match my receipt?”, the answer is almost always that your exact local rate differs from your state’s average combined rate — the FAQ on the homepage explains this, and the custom-rate option lets you enter the exact rate from your receipt. We cannot give personal tax advice or tell you the correct rate for a specific transaction; for that, your state or local tax authority is the right place to ask.
